Dr. Sun Student Science Award 

The Dr. Sun Student Science Award in Memory of Dr. Tung-Tien Henry Sun (February 20, 1947 - May 26, 2022). Dr. Sun was the co-founder and the first President (1989-1991) of the Westchester Association of Chinese Americans (WACA). He was a beloved and extraordinary Professor of Cell Biology, Dermatology, Pharmacology, and Urology, at NYU School of Medicine. Dr. Sun's lab at NYU has helped numerous young scientific leaders stand out in curiosity, creativity, collaboration, and boldness in scientific research. The Dr. Sun Student Science Award is a continuation of his passion and devotion to supporting future generations of young scientists.

The 2024-2025 Dr. Sun Student Science Award is now accepting applications

Eligibility:

This year's award aims to recognize an outstanding student in Science from high schools in Westchester County, New York. Students of grades 10, 11, and 12 in September 2024 are eligible to apply.

Prizes:  

The First Prize awardee will receive $1,500 and a certificate at the Chinese New Year Celebration in February 2025. 

The Second Prize awardee will receive $600 and a certificate at the Chinese New Year Celebration in February 2025..  

The Third Prize awardee will receive $400 and a certificate at the Chinese New Year Celebration in February 2025.

Nomination: 

Being nominated is a great honor. Each eligible nominee will receive a recognition letter from the Westchester Association of Chinese Americans (WACA) President.

Submission Details: 

WACA will only consider the completed applications received before midnight on 30 September 2024, including,
1. Nomination Letter 

A nominating letter outlining the significance of the student’s accomplishments and any information that would be helpful as the committee makes its decision should be provided by the student’s science teachers or mentors and sent separately to WACA (nywaca@gmail.com) by September 30th, 2024.   

2. Application package from the nominated students 

Applicants should complete and sign the application form, including a copy of their high school transcript and full research report, and send it to WACA at nywaca@gmail.com  by September 30th, 2024. 

Evaluation Process: 

All applications will be first checked for eligibility, including meeting the application deadline and qualifications. The award committee then evaluates eligible applications. 

Notification:
